The “Military” aerial photograph collection displays the impact the modern defence of the Scottish nation has had upon Scotland’s landscape. This includes areas such as military airfields, battle ranges and naval dockyards together with the vehicles and visible supporting infrastructure. As well as modern warfare, evidence of Scotland's military heritage is also visible from the air. From Iron Age fortifications, through the historic battlefields of Robert the Bruce and up to the remnants of the World War II sea defences - the latter, designed to prevent enemy troops from landing on the beaches – Scotland's history is tightly interwoven with conflict and warfare.
